Other Insurance – Auto, Home
AUTO - In the US, private companies issue all auto insurance policies. In Canada, B.C., Saskatchewan and Manitoba have government run auto insurance that is the only source for the mandated auto insurance required. If you are unhappy with your claim or customer service, there is little recourse. This can be a big adjustment for those used to the privately run, competitive auto insurance industry in the US. There are other differences as well. For example, auto quotes are generally for an annual premium versus a six-month premium in the US and you won’t hear of uninsured or underinsured coverage. One pleasant surprise you should find is your auto insurance in Canada is generally less expensive than the US.
HOME - Here you will find little difference with the US except you will find it generally cheaper as well. These policies are fairly standard and you get them through private insurance companies in your province so be sure you shop around to get the best coverage for the premium paid.
